Luke 23:44-46 ”When Hell Came to Calvary”

Today we look at two of the miracles that took place when Jesus died on the Cross.  There was a darkness that covered the earth for 3 hours.  What took place in those three hours?  After they were over, another miracle took place- the curtain in the temple was torn from the top to the bottom.   What did that signify?  And what about the final words of Jesus from the Cross?  Join us today as we look at 3 hours when "hell came to Calvary". 

Revelation 3:14-22 ”The Church of the Laodiceans”

In today's study, we look at the last of the 7 letters to the Churches in Asian Minor.  Laodicea was a wealthy city known for it's banking, shiny black wool, and eye-salve.   It had one major problem- an inadequate water supply.   Aqueducts carried cold water from Colossae and hot water from the springs of Hierapolis.   By the time it arrived in Laodicea, the water was lukewarm and very distasteful.   Jesus addresses this final church as being "lukewarm" and He's ready to spit them out of His mouth.  But the situation is not beyond repair, if they will simply be zealous and repent. 

Revelation 3:1-6 ”The Church of Sardis”

In today's episode, we look at the Church of Sardis.  Unlike the others, Jesus has no commendation for this assembly.   By this time Sardis had ceased to be an important city- its greatness lay in the distant past.   They were still living off of the "name" of their previous status.   Likewise, the church there had a "name" that they were living, but Jesus says they are dead.   There is hope, but time is running out.  Would they hear what the Spirit was saying to their church?  Do we hear Him today?

In today's episode we review some of the high points of our study in Revelation thus far.  Concluding the letter to Thyatira, we see the serious consequences for the idolatry and immorality of Jezebel and her followers.  

Revelation 2:18-29 ”The Church of Thyatira” (Part One)

In today's episode we look at Jesus' letter to the Church of Thyatira.  He reveals Himself as the One with eyes as a flame of fire and feet like fine brass.  In many ways, this Church has some commendable attributes.   They are growing in their faith, love, and perseverance.   But there is a deadly poison in their midst.   Their tolerance of a false teacher is going to bring this Church under judgment and great tribulation. 

Revelation 2:12-17 ”The Church of Pergamum”

We continue our verse-by-verse study of the book of Revelation.  In today's episode, we look at the Church of Pergamum.  The ancient city of Pergamum was rampant with idolatrous temples.  Jesus declared it was the place where "Satan's throne" was located.   Jesus commends the church for holding fast to His Name.   But He rebukes them for their doctrinal errors.   If they fail to repent of their compromise(s), they will face the Sword of His mouth.

Revelation 2:8-11 ”The Church of Smyrna”

We are not told of the origins of the Church at Smyrna.  But Jesus reveals some sobering truths to this ancient congregation.   This is one of the 2 churches in Revelation that Jesus has no negative remarks for.   They were impoverished by worldly standards, but they were rich in God's estimation.  Although the threat of imprisonment and martyrdom was a reality, there was another reality.   For those overcomers, they are promised they would not be hurt by the "second death".   He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the churches! 

Revelation 2:1-7 ”The Church of Ephesus”

In today's episode we look at the first of 7 letters to the churches in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey).  The Church of Ephesus seemed like a desirable church from all outward appearances.  They were active and zealous for the ministry and for the name of Christ.  But there was one fatal flaw:  They had left Jesus in the process!!  He encourages them to return to their first Love and gives precious promises to the overcomer.  

Revelation 1:12-20 ”John’s Vision of the Glorified Christ”

In today's episode we look at the conclusion of "part one" of Revelation's 3-fold division.  John receives an awesome vision of Jesus Christ in His glory!  The images, symbols, and descriptions will prove helpful in interpreting the next section (letters to the 7 churches).  John is overwhelmed with the presence of the glorified Jesus but Jesus tells him to "fear not" and gives him the outline of the prophecy of Revelation.  

Revelation 1:9-11 ”I, John, Your Brother, and Companion”

In today's episode we look at John's greetings to the 7 churches.  He identifies with them as a brother and a companion in 3 aspects:  tribulation, the Kingdom, and perseverance.    John was banished to the island of Patmos for preaching God's Word.   But in his tribulation, he was also "in the Spirit" and received a glorious revelation of the risen Christ.  If you're in a difficult place in your life, open your heart to receive ministry from the Holy Spirit in a fresh and new outpouring and infilling.
